Last Night I watched Fahrenheit 9/11. I actually found it to be a very amusing movie. Michael Moore is clearly a very gifted communicator, the way he splices film footage to communicate the message that he so desperately wants to get across. I found it hilarious the way he brings things together completely out of its context to make a “point”. It reminded me of most Christians interpreting the Bible, actually.

I think Moore is a rather cynical man who wants to believe the worst about the world, or at least about his political enemies. The only area I had sympathy for his rhetoric was in the Iraq war, which I could never have been in favour of. Still, that’s not saying much. I can’t think of any war that I would have been in favour of. Looking back I’d toy with supporting WW2, but may not have at the time. I just don’t see war as the answer to anything.

Still, the movie overall is a massive propaganda piece. It combines lies, out of context quotes with a message that the audience wants to hear. I suspect that people who are naturally anti-war and anti-american and anti-bush will find this movie invigorates them and gives them a passion to their hatred - and I’m not convinced that’s a good thing. I’ve heard many people say “this movie changed my life” and “It’s amazing to hear the truth” and “I just found it all so upsetting to find out.” If it makes them avoid violence at all costs – you beauty! But if it spreads more lies and hatred then the movie has a lot to answer for.

For some other analysis of the movie and some exposing of the mis-truths in it, check out some of these links:
